Creative Heights Artist Residency: Julie Moore

Join us as we learn the mysterious art of lumen photography by acclaimed photographer/artist, Julie Moore. She will show us how to make impressions come to life as objects of art in this remarkable art form.
This workshop is made possible by Oregon Community Foundation’s Creative Heights grant.

Day 1: Introduction to Lumen Photography, Techniques & Implementation
9:00 AM – 9:30 AM: Registration & Introductions
~ Welcome & introductions
~ Overview of workshop & goals
~ Overview of lumen printing & its history
~ To fix or not to fix
9:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Basic Lumen Process & Steps
~ Setting up your workspace
~ Selecting paper & objects for photograms/lumens
~ Choosing appropriate outdoor placement for development (light exposure)
~ Creating 1st lumen / option to ‘fix’
12:00 PM – 1:00 PM: Lunch Break
1:00 PM – 2:30 PM: Lumen Print Review & Troubleshooting
~ Results reviewed (over-exposure, uneven prints, additive results)
~ Changes implemented, experimenting with different objects & enhancements
~ 2nd lumen exposure started
2:30 PM – 4:00 PM: 2nd Lumen Print Review & Troubleshooting
~ Scanning of 1st lumen & overview of post process enhancements
~ Results of 2nd Print reviewed, desired changes noted for tomorrow’s 3rd print
~ Option to ‘fix’ 2nd lumen
~ Practice of post process enhancements
Day 2: Advanced Techniques & Artistic Exploration
9:00 AM – 12:00 AM: Review, Goals, and Creation of 3rd Lumen Print
~ Review of yesterday’s processes & goals
~ Creation of 3rd Lumen Print
~ Post Process Enhancement of yesterday’s scanned lumens
~ Using alternative light sources
12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Lunch
1:00 PM – 3:00 PM: 3rd Lumen Review, Post Processing Enhancements, Sharing
~ option to ‘fix’ 3rd lumen print
~ Scanning of 3rd lumen print & post processing enhancements
~ Sharing of work and questions
