Home
“Home” can be interpreted in so many unique ways: home is where the heart is, my home away from home, home home on the range, make yourself at home, mi casa es tu casa. The musical group The Talking Heads nailed our universal feeling about home with their lyric line “Home is where I want to be”. Don’t we all long to feel like we are at home no matter where we are? This show’s title has been exemplified by all of these John Day River Territory artists both literally and in a loose manner: home is where we create. From sculptures to wood carvings to paintings and photography and more, what better way to feel at home than to conjure up and express our creative energies? We hope you enjoy this collection of art and crafts from those who live in the surrounding area. After all, this is our shared homeland, a place where we want to be.
Our gratitude goes to the Oregon Community Foundation for operating support, the Oregon Frontier Chamber of Commerce for sponsoring the artist reception, PushDot Studio for printing fine art photographs and providing frames, the Roundhouse Foundation for purchasing the black art panels and to the Wheeler County Cultural Heritage Coalition for a donation toward securing lighting. Special thanks to the Juniper Arts Council for providing their fiscal sponsorship and to our private donors as we could not operate without their support.
Lastly but not least, we thank the talented participating artists and the audience who are here to support them.

This Must Be The Place
song by the Talking Heads
Home is where I want to bePick me up and turn me roundI feel numb, burn with a weak heartI guess I must be having funThe less we say about it the betterMake it up as we go alongFeet on the groundHead in the skyIt’s ok I know nothing’s wrong… nothing
Hi yo I got plenty of timeHi yo you got light in your eyesAnd you’re standing here beside meI love the passing of timeNever for moneyAlways for love
Cover up + say goodnight… say goodnight…Home, is where I want to beBut I guess I’m already thereI come home, she lifted up her wingsGuess that this must be the placeI can’t tell one from another
Did I find you, or you find me?There was a time before we were born
If someone asks, this where I’ll be where I’ll beHi yo we drift in and outHi yo sing into my mouthOut of all those kinds of peopleYou got a face with a viewI’m just an animal looking for a homeShare the same space for a minute or twoAnd you love me till my heart stopsLove me till I’m deadEyes that light up, eyes look through youCover up the blank spotsHit me on the head ah ooh
