DESCRIPTION:Daniel Adam Maltz is a fortepianist based in Vienna\, Austria. \nHe specializes in Wiener Klassik (Viennese Classicism) — especially the works of Haydn\, Mozart\, and Beethoven — performed on the Viennese fortepianos of their time. \nCalled “master of the Viennese fortepiano\,” Daniel’s performances are praised for their “extraordinary precision and lightness” (The Common Reader). Critics applaud his “very sensitive phrasing” and “marvelous dynamic contrasts” (Marblehead Current) featuring “broad warmth” and “lavish but tasteful” playing (Classical Sonoma). \nHe debuted at Carnegie Hall (Weill) at age 22 and is a sought-after soloist\, Lieder accompanist\, and clinician. Daniel is devoted to performing on Viennese fortepianos — utilizing the vast range of tones and colors familiar to the composers. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHe brings his expertise in the Viennese sound\, culture\, philosophies\, and performance practices of the Classical era to his interpretations. Daniel studied fortepiano performance at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna and the Royal Academy of Music in London. DESCRIPTION:Cassandra Lee is committed to exploring ways to use various kinds of fibers\, including but not limited to upholstery\, canvas\, burlap\, felted wool and silk. In this workshop she will include her explorations and techniques using raw-edge and rolled-edge appliqué. She will share ideas about and introduce methods to create texture using hand embroidery and other found objects. By using various kinds of fabrics\, both new and used\, she will inspire curious minds to work outside the lines and allow creativity to flow. \nUpon completion of this workshop\, participants will take home a sample project to transform into a small pillow\, wall hanging or other creative use.  \nBring beads\, scraps of fabric\, jewelry\, any small objects! \nClass size is limited to six participants. DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate artists in the John Day River Territory. All art forms depicting a sense of home are accepted. See Event Submission link to participate in the exhibit. \nHome \n\n\n\n“Home” can be interpreted in so many unique ways: home is where the heart is\, my home away from home\, home home on the range\, make yourself at home\, mi casa es tu casa. The musical group The Talking Heads nailed our universal feeling about home with their lyric line “Home is where I want to be”. Don’t we all long to feel like we are at home no matter where we are? This show’s title has been exemplified by all of these John Day River Territory artists both literally and in a loose manner: home is where we create. From sculptures to wood carvings to paintings and photography and more\, what better way to feel at home than to conjure up and express our creative energies? We hope you enjoy this collection of art and crafts from those who live in the surrounding area. He took his first woodcarving class and as they say\, “the rest is history.” Terry has always been interested in the caricature style of woodcarving and enjoys making people smile. Three years ago\, he attended a chainsaw carving event and was fascinated by the idea of connecting caricature to larger blocks of wood. After a chainsaw carving class and many hours of practice\, Terry has become a “chainsaw artist.” He recently competed in the Oregon Divisional Chainsaw Carving Championships in Reedsport Oregon. Like his carvings in miniature\, his work continues to bring joy and big smiles to his audience. \nTerry is the current President of the Capitol Woodcarvers Club in Salem Oregon and the President of the Northwest Carving Academy in Ellensburg Washington. With some tips and a few techniques\, his instruction can send you on your own woodcarving journey. His class will feature an overview of the craft\, basic tool selection\, sharpening and safety.
