SUMMARY:Music Series: Rich Swanger
DESCRIPTION:Rich Swanger is an Oregon based songwriter with roots in folk\, gospel\, and country-blues music. Born amongst the Appalachian hills of Pennsylvania\, he was surrounded by song from the very beginning. He discovered harmony in the church choir and found an attraction to twang hearing his father strum country classics around the house. This led to a wild love for timeless melodies and rock-solid songwriting. A move to the Pacific Northwest in 2004 proved to be the catalyst he needed to start releasing some of his own music\, and further explore his love of the song. \n\n\n\nHis humble solo project\, Seahorse\, started in the late 2000’s and grew organically over the next decade to include some of the region’s most inspiring musicians. Sensing a need to address that change and growth\, he stepped out from behind the moniker in 2018 with a self-titled release\, ‘Rich Swanger & The Little Known Band.’ RS & LKB transformed his quiet\, folky originals into glistening country and blues songs\, while also emboldening him as a performer. Lo and behold\, he began to heed the deeper call of music. \nRich’s songs have been featured on the television show Shameless and his song “Didn’t Make a Sound” recently won Portland’s Folk Festival songwriting contest . He has also played TEDx Portland alongside Rebecca Jordan Smith (Prince\, John Legend). Swanger has recorded 4 full length albums and performs regularly around the Pacific Northwest as a solo act and with his group\, The Little Known Band. \nConcert is sponsored by the Oregon Frontier Chamber of Commerce.

SUMMARY:Music Series: Jenny Don't & the Spurs
DESCRIPTION:We are in for a real treat when Jenny Don’t & the Spurs comes to town. \nJenny Don’t & the Spurs have been pioneering their own path in the music world for over a dozen years. Known for their high-energy Country Western style and captivating stage presence\, they’ve garnered a global following with their infectious enthusiasm\,  and extensive discography\, featuring three albums\, an EP\, and nine singles. \nTheir 2021 LP\, Fire on the Ridge\, expanded their horizons\, leading them on tours to continents where few other country bands have had the opportunity to perform\, affirming their formidable presence in the country music scene. This latest release\, “Broken Hearted Blue\,” set to debut on June 14th\, 2024\, adds even more fuel to their fire. \nWith their exciting new album\, Broken Hearted Blue Jenny Don’t and the Spurs present 10 dynamic songs that channel the essence of the Northwest’s music sounds while evoking the nostalgia of the Western frontier. \nJenny Don’t earned her moniker in her youth for her strong-willed and independent nature\, often defying authority figures much to their consternation. This inherent rebelliousness led her to resonate with the authentic outlaw spirit of Country Western music. Such influences shine through in songs like “Pain in my Heart” and “One More Night\,” where the band channels the bold attitude and vocal style reminiscent of classic country legends like Johnny Paycheck and George Jones. Their music authentically captures the outlaw spirit while paying homage to the genre’s iconic figures. \nBorn in New Mexico\, Jenny later relocated to Washington state at a young age. Growing up\, she navigated the contrasting landscapes of the lush Pacific Northwest and the vast Southwestern desert\, which greatly influenced her songwriting. In the title track “Broken Hearted Blue\,” Jenny’s haunting vocals capture the intensity of a fleeting romantic moment\, complemented by lead guitarist Christopher March’s guitar work\, which echoes the haunting allure of the desert night sky with its reverb-drenched tones.
