DESCRIPTION:Join us for some fun while learning some basic dance steps at the General Store! Our instructor\, Travis Kokkeler of  Travis Dance Studio\, welcomes skills of all levels\, and especially loves newcomers who have never tried partner dancing. \nIndividuals and couples are encouraged to come ready to simply have a great time. \nNo worries if you can only attend a couple of the classes – Travis can work with all skill levels in each class. \nSpray used to be known for having the best dances in the region\, so we intend to bring this reputation back to life! \nAll classes are from 10am-11:30am: \nSaturday\, February 8 \nSaturday\, March 22 \nSaturday\, April 12 \nSaturday\, May 10 \nThese classes are made possible by a Roundhouse Foundation wellness grant.

SUMMARY:Creative Heights Artist Residency: Jody Miller
DESCRIPTION:Acclaimed photographer Jody Miller will show us how to take our mat printed photographs and make them into a beautiful art piece using the art form of encaustics. \nLearn how to make your photographs sing and become one-of-a-kind dreamy “paintings” using encaustic wax\, adding texture and applying colors. You’ll learn the basics of photoencaustic processes\, painting and fusing hot wax to your photographs. We’ll apply textures and add oil colors to take them to another level. There is so much that can be done with encaustic wax and this will cover just a couple of techniques to get you started and inspired to go further with this fascinating medium. \nEach participant must bring an 8X8 MATTE finished print to work with. \nTwo sessions: \nMay 15   3pm-4pm \nMay 16   10am-5pm \nThis workshop was made possible by Oregon Community Foundation’s Creative Heights Grant.

SUMMARY:Creative Heights Artist Residency: Yvonne Pepin-Wakefield
DESCRIPTION:Using traditional Japanese calligraphy kits\, participants will learn and expand upon the fundamentals of brush and ink painting. No prior experience is needed. We will begin inside and practice brush stroke fundamentals. Afterwards we move outside to create calligraphic style ink paintings on rice paper of the surrounding Spray landscape. \nMost pieces are completed in between one and five minutes. Less is more when discovering how ink reacts to paper. Not only do you take away memories and many study sheets\, but a final masterpiece on pre-mounted paper. \nYvonne Pepin-Wakefield\, Ph.D. has taught art to every age and ability on three continents. Her teaching empowers the individual to see for themself\, while enhancing observational skills in an engaging atmosphere. She is the author of the award-winning “Babe in the Woods\,” book series. She owns Yvonne’s Art Studio in The Dalles\, Oregon and a log cabin\, a few mountainsides over from Spray. \nThis workshop was made possible by Oregon Community Foundation’s Creative Heights Grant.
